I’ve been in Nashville, TN the past few days attending Inc. Magazine‘s annual Grow Your Company Conference, GROWCO for short.  I’ve been reading over some of the notes I took as I wait for my flight home, so here, in no particular order, are some interesting takeaways for both business and life from some of the best entrepreneurs in the world!

  • Steve Baker from the Great Game of Business says they are preparing for a recession which their economist projects will come in 2018-2019
  • Lisa Hendrickson from Spark City gave a talk on pricing strategy.  She says price should be pegged to the customer segment, not the product you are selling.
  • Norm Brodsky, columnist for Inc. Magazine,  has 3 criteria for starting a new business:
    • 1- The concept is over 100 years old.  This way he doesn’t have to spend money educating the public on how the concept works.
    • 2- The concept sits on the edge of tech
    • 3- He finds a niche in the market
  • Brothers Benjamin & Max Goldberg from Strategic Hospitality gave me two really awesome nuggets.
    • 1- If you charge $9 for a $3 burger you need to make up the $6 gap with experience.
    • 2- Make people feel like it’s their birthday every time they interact with your company.
  • Marcus Lemonis from CNBC’s “The Profit” says to get personal with your team and in general, be vulnerable – it builds rapport with everyone you work with.
